Thoiry are U16 Ile de France Indoor Cricket Champions

Thoiry's first 2012 season club trophy, crowned champions in a final showdown with Drancy

The Ile de France U16 Indoor Cricket Tournament (6-a-side) took place on 25th March 2012. Thoiry's U16 team played their first match against Eelevar and won comfortably with the help of a good innings from Ben Bullough. As the third team in the tournament, Drancy, also beat Eelevar the deciding game was Thoiry vs Drancy.

Thoiry batted first and reached a total of 84 runs off their 10 overs. Alex Young scored 40, playing a captain's innings and contributing almost half the team's score of 84.

A great team effort from Thoiry meant good bowling and excellent fielding to keep the opposition’s run rate low, until the last over. But they sill managed to win by a couple of runs despite a nail biting last over.

Congratulations to the team: Benjamin Bullough, Shakthi Peiris, Pierre Julien, Alex Young (c), Oliver Patrick, Guy Butler. Have look at some photos here

A NEW THOIRY LADY UMPIRE

"Nat owt mate" ! Meaning Not out ! in English

Get used to it being said in an Aussie accent, because Thoiry's Sharon Whiting has just brilliantly passed her ECB Level 1 Umpires course with a 90% pass rate and finishing equal 3rd. The top score was 94%. Out of the 19 people who took the course 11 people passed the exam, and who can now Umpire in France Cricket's Super League.

Thoiry Work Day

A few wandering souls looking for the Easter bunny ended up at the club house yesterday to do a few bits and pieces before the start of the season next Wednesday.

Shelves and a display cabinet were put up and are filled to the brim now with Thoiry history. The walls are covered in photos of teams and people from a bygone era, and a good spring clean of the kitchen has now been done.

On the playing side, John repaired the shower door and Cameron and Mark painted the pitch lines, including for the very first time, THE WIDE LINE. A bowler’s nightmare…..and a batsmen’s paradise.

Thanks to Phil who actually re-opened the club house after the winter by turning things on and filling things up after the winter break.

Bill, our Treasurer, even with a very bad knee came down to check on the troops and give some very kind moral support and get a crafty cup of tea.

Maggie, Cameron, Helen, John, Sharon & Mark worked tirelessly throughout the day to get the club house and pitch ready for the arrival of our Kiwi Guests next Wednesday, and ahead of our first men’s game next Sunday.

Finally thanks to everybody who replied to my request. I know this was not the best weekend for you all, but unfortunately your committee didn’t quite find the time to organise things properly this year.

Have a nice Easter weekend
